“For Fall” Julia Kennedy, 04/10/07

This exhibition Julia Kennedy (Toronto) installed shelves and filled the space with jars of homemade preserves; peaches, pickled beets, chow-chow, and pickled beans were the choices people had to take home with them. Julia wrote to us in her proposal “What better way to welcome the fresh, cozy, energetic time that can be fall then having a pantry stocked with summer time sun shine preserves and pickles and jams to keep our minds an bodies warm and resiliant in these coming cold months?”
Julia was acting on a caring instinct, preparing her peers for the long cold winter that drew a little closer everyday. With a light glowing from behind the jars the closet turned cupboard became a holy beacon.
Julia wrote on the gallery door:
For fall,
stay strong
preserves and pickles
offered from
my lovely larder.
